Class Overview
Have you ever used a Super Soaker or rode on a Ferris wheel and wondered how they were created? Do you want to create your own inventions? If that is you, then STEAM Masters is where you can become the next inventor! Join this course to discover what it means to be an engineer!
We will learn from STEAM Masters such as George Ferris who created the Ferris wheel and Lonnie Johnson who made the Super Soaker! You will get to use science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills to design your own creations to solve problems. Get ready to be creative, collaborate, and have a lot of fun!
STEAM problem solvers will:
- Engage in hands on, interactive learning
- Use the engineering design process
- Learn from real STEAM masters in their field
- Collaborate with others on projects to solve problems
- Attend a field trip to the Works Museum
Teachers
Maegan Melby

Maegan Melby is a second and third grade teacher at RL Stevenson Elementary in Fridley Public Schools. She has been teaching elementary for five years, including two years teaching abroad in Taiwan. She has her Master’s of Education from the University of Minnesota. Maegan loves to bring to life diverse cultures and perspectives in her teaching, while also focusing on hands-on, interactive learning. She is passionate about developing lifelong learners. This is her first year teaching Summer Academy.
