We love new, innovative course ideas and welcome your application. The following is an outline of the process to becoming a teacher at Summer Academy.
Step 1: Design a Course
The course should meet the unique needs of the high-potential student, helping them develop leadership skills, creativity, problem solving and communication in a challenging, analytical atmosphere. Course objectives should be attained through the use of structured activities, extensive emphasis on higher-level questioning, peer interaction and critical analysis. It should be challenging and fun!
Step 2: Apply Online
New teacher applicants for Summer Academy should complete the online application. The application components include a Resume, Cover Letter, Course Description/Outline (1-2 pages), Course and Personal Abstracts, and References. Application deadline for new teachers is February 25th.
SUMMER ACADEMY 2021: Tuesday, June 15 – Thursday, July 1
Step 3: Interview
Selected developers of course proposals will be contacted to interview by February 26th, 2021. All interviews will take place virtually. Courses approved during the interview process will be listed in the course catalog. A Summer Academy position will be contingent upon adequate enrollment for each course and a successful background check.
Step 4: If Your Course Fills
Registration opens for course selection on March 1st. Teachers will be notified by mid-April if their class filled and will run for the upcoming Summer Academy session. Further details on expectations leading up to Summer Academy will be provided at this time.
Step 5: Summer Academy 2021
Summer Academy students are onsite from approximately 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM during our regular days and 8:00 – 2:30 on the two extended days. Teachers stay with their students until they have left the campus. In addition, Summer Academy provides an Open House (A three hour evening event at the end of the Academy) to showcase the incredible student work at Summer Academy.
