Application Process
Step 1: Receive invitation by one of three ways (1) Summer Academy Brochure distributed at school (2) Summer Academy distributed at school (3) Summer Academy postcard mailed to home of students who have previously attended Summer Academy.
No matter what type of invitation you received, online registration and payment is available for 2012 Summer Academy! The online registration password can be found on the postcards and inside front cover of the brochure. All passwords are the same. The online information is the same information found in a hardcopy brochure.
Step 2: Browse courses for grades 2-11. First grade students select from First Grade Project classes.
Students are encouraged to list several courses that interest them on the application form. The grades listed for classes are the grades just completed. Students should expect to be registered in any course they list on the registration form based on course availability and the student’s order of preference. Listing only one choice does not ensure placement.
Step 3: Apply online or by mail. If applying online, credit card and check payment are accepted. If applying by mail, send checks to Summer Academy, 2697 East County Rd E #533, White Bear Lake, MN 55110.
Priority will be given to qualified students from the twelve sponsoring districts whose applications are submitted by March 30. All applications submitted on or before March 30 are regarded as first-day registrations and have equal status for placement in classes. Every attempt is made to register students in their first or second choice. If an application is received after the postmarked deadline, a child will be assigned the first of his/her choices that is still open for enrollment. Applications will be accepted throughout the month of May or until classes are full.
Note: District representatives will be sending First Grade Project materials and application forms to recommended students. Apply online or use the application given. Please do not complete a downloadable application.
Step 4: Look for a mailing confirming your child’s registration during the last week of April.
In the first mailing will be the course assignment, a questionnaire that we would like you to complete and return to us, the date and time of the informal preview of the Summer Academy buildings and other pertinent information.
Waiting List – If a student is registered for a class, but would prefer a different class, a parent may call Summer Academy and request to be put on a waiting list for a particular course. At the same time, we strongly suggest that the student remain in the assigned course. Class spots can go very quickly and we do not want a student left out because he/she is on a waiting list. You must call Summer Academy to be put on a waiting list and we will notify you if/when an opening becomes available

Private School Students – The location of your private school, not your home address, determines in which school district you are listed for Summer Academy. The school district where your private school resides is the school district number that you need to list on your application. You can find the number of that district and the name of the Summer Academy representative on the cover of this booklet. The representative for that district is your contact concerning Summer Academy. Summer Academy guidelines that are in place within the district are the ones that prevail.
Non-Participating District Fee – A limited number of students from non-participating districts could be accepted after April 8, if space remains available in specific courses. Students who do not reside in the attendance area of the twelve school districts served by the Academy must pay an additional $25 non-resident fee. The entire course fee will be returned if the applicant is not accepted or if the course does not fill. A teacher letter of recommendation and a copy of the student’s most recent report card are required. If you are new to Summer Academy and interested in knowing whether your child could attend, please call the Summer Academy message line at 763-528-4621 to discuss.
Incomplete Applications – Applications received without a deposit will be considered incomplete. The application will be returned to the parent without any record made at Summer Academy. Much time and placement priority can be lost during this process. Students who are applying for financial aid from their districts are not required to send money. Please see Financial Aid section for further details.
